Guidance on what you can and cannot tell people to wear at work will be published this summer by the government. It will explain the law regarding dress codes in the workplace. The government agreed to publish the guidance following a recommendation by the Petitions and Women and Equalities Committees in their joint report, High heels and workplace dress codes, published in January 2017. The report called on the government to take urgent action to improve the effectiveness of the Equality Act in preventing discriminatory practices relating to dress at work.
