Firm announces acquisition of genealogical research business

Leading London law firm Edwin Coe has announced the acquisition of genealogical research business Hoopers (G B Hooper & Son Limited), marking a significant step in its growth as a multi-disciplinary practice. The move reflects a growing trend among progressive firms to own independent businesses alongside legal operations, with Edwin Coe consulting extensively with the Solicitors Regulation Authority to ensure full compliance.

Alison Broadberry, managing partner and head of private client, said: ‘This acquisition underscores Edwin Coe’s continued commitment to growth and specialist work within the private capital sector.’ She added that Hoopers’ values ‘align strongly with our culture and mission to be collaborative, committed and connected’.

Hoopers, founded in 1923, is known for its expertise in resolving intestacies and supporting the legal profession and public sector with specialist genealogical services. CEO Lauren Harris welcomed the acquisition, saying: ‘The Hoopers team are excited to have a new parent company that is committed to the continuing growth of our business, whilst allowing us to operate as a separate business.’

Following the acquisition, Hoopers will relocate to offices adjacent to Edwin Coe’s base in Lincoln’s Inn, maintaining its independence while benefiting from the support of a thriving law firm. The move enhances Edwin Coe’s private client capabilities and reinforces its position as a forward-thinking, multi-disciplinary practice.
