Entries open for 2022 rugby 7s, netball & mixed tag tournament

Calling all sports-loving people in the legal world―this year’s Law Society RFC 7s and Netball Tournament is on, and bigger than ever

This year’s tournament will take place on 18 September at Richmond Athletic. Sponsor Brockwell Capital will be supporting the contest again, while funds raised will go to the legal charity LawCare.

Tournament Director Daniel How said: ‘We were amazed at the success of the Mixed Tag Tournament last year and expect this to grow again in 2022.

‘The Tournament now really offers firms an opportunity to enter a number of teams, with up to 36 employees playing sports on the day. Combine that with hospitality options and we continue to believe we offer firms a unique experience for intra and intercompany bonding.’

But who will emerge triumphant on the day?

Last year, 60 teams from 35 law and financial services firms lined up to play in one of the three tournaments, which included Mixed Tag for the first time as well as rugby and netball.

Reigning champions Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer (pictured) retained the netball cup from 2019 (the event did not take place in 2020), beating Linklaters in the final. Osborne Clark took home the inaugural Mixed Tag cup, narrowly defeating Russell Cooke.

On the rugby pitch, new entrants Le Rugby Club du Palais, over from France for the weekend, put up strong competition and took home the Fair Play Award, having loaned several of their players to other sides during the tournament. It was Clyde & Co, however, who walked away with the cup after a gripping final with Lloyd’s of London.
