Fladgate announces new chairman and boosts German offering

The new chairman of Fladgate has been announced following Charles Wander’s decision to move to a consultant position as of April 2018. Richard Reuben, currently the head of the firm’s real estate practice, will succeed Charles as chairman on 1 April. Partner Stephen Lewis will subsequently take over from Richard as real estate head.

Commenting on Charles’ seven-year tenure as chairman, Richard said: ‘The Fladgate of today owes much to Charles and we are extremely grateful for all he has done.  His attention and vision have been an important contributing factor to our success over many years.’

He continued: ‘As Fladgate looks to the future, our intention is to build on the financial strength of the business by attracting the highest quality talent that will enable us to continue to deliver success on a consistent basis for the benefit of future generations of partners and employees.’

Elsewhere, Fladgate has also announced the hiring of partner Jan Hoppe, who joined the corporate department on 1 January. Jan was previously a partner in Gordon Dadds, and specialises in corporate and commercial matters, as well as competition law. He also offers the distinctive attribute of being dual-qualified to practise in both England and Germany; with his appointment, the firm’s German desk has now grown to ten fluent German speakers.

Head of the corporate department, Grant Gordon, commented: ‘Our focus on strategic growth continues with this appointment and we are delighted to welcome Jan to Fladgate. His experience of working on an international platform will provide real added value to clients of our German and M&A practices, both of which have been particularly active recently.’
