Partner joins corporate team

Fladgate LLP has announced that Josh Swerner will join as a partner in its corporate team, effective 24 February 2025, making him the tenth lateral partner hire for the firm this month.

Josh joins from Avonhurst, where he built a strong reputation advising clients on private equity transactions, domestic and cross-border M&A, joint ventures and corporate advisory work. With a particular focus on private capital in the mid-market, Josh has supported a wide range of clients, from private equity funds and investee companies as well as large international corporates and owner-managers looking to sell their businesses.

Josh brings over a decade of experience working alongside top-tier lawyers across London, Moscow, and within both larger, established players and boutique firms, including Linklaters and CMS UK. His breadth of experience allows him to provide tailored guidance to clients, addressing complex regulatory, constitutional and structural challenges in corporate law.

His recent experience includes assisting Normec Group on multiple acquisitions in the testing, inspections, certification and compliance sector, advising private equity firm Limerston Capital with numerous bolt-on acquisitions, and supporting the managers of Phenna Group on their equity arrangements as part of a major investment by Oakley Capital.

Josh will work alongside Fladgate’s established corporate team, supporting clients on complex transactions and corporate advisory matters across various industries. His appointment reinforces Fladgate’s commitment to providing exceptional legal services to clients in the world of private capital through top tier M&A, private equity and corporate governance capabilities.

Commenting on his appointment, Josh Swerner said: 'Fladgate’s Corporate team has a strong reputation in the market for delivering high-quality legal counsel across a broad spectrum of transactions. The firm’s dynamic and entrepreneurial approach chimes with my own, particularly its focus on the private capital space, and I look forward to working with my new colleagues to help clients navigate complex matters.'

David Robinson, head of corporate at Fladgate, commented: 'Josh’s arrival strengthens our Corporate team and enhances our ability to provide top-tier legal services to clients across a range of industries. His extensive experience in M&A and private equity, particularly within the private capital arena, makes him a fantastic addition to the firm. We are confident that he will make a significant impact and help drive the firm’s continued expansion in private equity rollup work.'

Grant Gordon, managing partner at Fladgate, added: 'Complementing the recent arrival of a 25-strong team from Memery Crystal, Josh’s appointment is another step forward in Fladgate’s strategic growth and supports our ambition in the private capital sector. His expertise, versatility and commitment to excellence will further enhance our ability to support our corporate clients throughout the market cycle.'
