Religious organisations will not be compelled to marry same-sex couples
Religious organisations could be given a guarantee that the European Court of Human Rights will not interfere if they refuse to conduct same-sex marriages, the government has said. The legislation would state that religious organisations or individual ministers cannot be compelled to marry same-sex couples or allow gay weddings on their premises, and would amend the Equality Act 2010 to prevent discrimination claims being brought.
