Legal giants take centre stage at Halsbury Legal Awards
Two legal heavyweights—Sir Sydney Kentridge QC and Robert Jay QC—made the headlines at the inaugural Halsbury Legal Awards (HLA) hosted by LexisNexis in central London last night.
Sir Sydney, who received the Lifetime Contribution award for more than 60 years of outstanding service to the legal profession, charmed the 300 guests with a warm acceptance speech in which he shared his passion for Halsbury’s Laws and his aversion to computers.
Christian Fleck, MD of LexisNexis UK, described the nonagenarian as a “giant of the legal profession...one of the great advocates of his, indeed any generation”.
Later in the evening celebrity host, Hugh Dennis, paid tribute to the superb advocacy of another legal giant: Robert Jay QC. Jay, whose appointment as a High Court judge was announced yesterday, won Legal Personality of the Year after a year in the headlines with his frontline role at the Leveson enquiry.
