Opposition MPs hope to win a vote to scrap home information packs (HIPs) next week, less than three weeks before they are due to come into force.
A Parliamentary vote has been triggered by the Conservative party, following a critical House of Lords’ Merits of Statutory Instruments Committee report, which questioned whether the regulations could “effectively achieve their policy objective” of simplifying property sales and reducing failed transactions. As the regulations currently stand, HIPs must contain copies of local authority searches and an energy performance certificate rating.
