London firm grows its family law team
Hunters Law has announced that Alex Brereton (pictured right) and Dr Maria Wright (pictured left) have joined the firm as partner and senior associate respectively, strengthening the firm’s family department.
New partner Alex is a specialist in high new worth and ultra high net worth matrimonial finance claims, and is experienced in cross-jurisdictional work involving complex asset and income structures. While primarily focusing on the financial aspects of relationship breakdown, Alex is also experienced in child arrangement proceedings, including those with international elements.
Alex said: ‘I am delighted to be joining Hunters as a partner in its highly regarded family team. The team is very well known for the quality and breadth of its practice, and I am excited to work with my new colleagues to continue developing Hunters’ modern and creative family practice to best meet the needs of today’s clients’
Maria’s appointment as a senior associate marks a return to private client family law practice. Maria joins Hunters from her role as senior legal advisor for the charity Children and Families Across Borders. She is a renowned expert in the field of international children law, including abduction, wardship jurisdictional disputes, recognition and enforcement of orders concerning children, relocation, as well as cases involving issues of forced marriage, and honour-based violence and child protection. She specialises in the 1996 Hague Convention, and has undertaken an MSc and a PhD on the operation of private international law in care proceedings in England.
Maria said: ‘I am thrilled to be joining the immensely experienced family department at Hunters as a Senior Associate. The team’s extensive experience of challenging children work, combined with my specialisation on the cross-border elements of family law, means that we will be well-positioned to provide top-level advice to clients on the most complex multi-jurisdictional disputes.’
Henry Hood, senior partner and head of the family department, said: ‘Over the past week, we have welcomed senior associate Dr Maria Wright and partner Alex Brereton into the Hunters family department. I am simply delighted at their arrival, and we are eager to explore what we can achieve together.’
