Lords Select Committee calls for written evidence on inquiries
Peers will scrutinise legislation on public inquiries to investigate whether it is fit for purpose. The Lords Select Committee on the Inquiries Act 2005, has asked for written evidence to be submitted by 31 July. The 2005 Act was intended to restore public confidence following the 12-year £200m Bloody Sunday Inquiry. The committee will look at how effective the Act has been, what might need to be changed, and whether the degree of judicial involvement is appropriate. It will hold public meetings in June and is expected to report by the end of February 2014.
