JMW Solicitors—John Buckby

Firm announces appointment of new head of intellectual property

JMW Solicitors has appointed John Buckby as head of intellectual property, bringing deep expertise in trade mark protection and global brand strategy. Previously head of IP at Gateley, John is dual-qualified as a solicitor and chartered trade mark attorney, and is known for his practical, commercially focused approach to dispute resolution and agreement negotiation.

John has worked extensively in the international music industry and holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Intellectual Property Law & Practice from Oxford University. He said: ‘I’m delighted to join JMW as a partner and head of the intellectual property team... I look forward to continuing to build on the firm’s excellent reputation in this area.’ Legal 500 has long recognised him as a ‘leading individual’ in IP and media.

Welcoming the appointment, John Andrews, head of the London office, noted: ‘John has a wealth of knowledge and experience following an impressive and varied career to date.’ John Burns, head of the intellectual property and commercial team, added: ‘His expertise, skill and personality will give a significant boost to our ambitions in the IP sector.’

John’s arrival adds momentum to JMW’s expanding IP litigation and brand protection offering, with operations coordinated across its London and Manchester offices. His experience positions the firm to further develop its reputation as a leading trade mark practice in a dynamic global market.
