A project to help courtroom lawyers understand scientific evidence has been launched by the Lord Chief Justice, The Royal Society and Royal Society of Edinburgh. A series of plain English guides or “primers” on scientific topics will be developed to assist judges, legal teams and juries when handling evidence in court. The first primer document to be developed will cover DNA analysis. The guides will cover the limitations of the science involved and the challenges associated with its application.
