Legal Ombudsman publishes Using a lawyer as you get older
The Legal Ombudsman has published a new guide, Using a lawyer as you get older. It offers older people 10 tips on getting the best service out of their solicitor and provides a glossary of legal jargon at the back. It advises people not to let anyone rush them into important decisions, such as choosing someone to be their power of attorney or writing a will; to be clear about how much they can afford and what they want to achieve; to shop around or contact organisations such as Citizens Advice for help in choosing a lawyer; to ask questions; and not to assume that the initial consultation will be free.
