LNB news: Advice issued on managing client expectations ahead of stamp duty holiday end

The Law Society has warned solicitors to manage their clients' expectations ahead of the end of the stamp duty land tax holiday on 31 March 2021, as the possibility of completing transactions before the deadline is slim, if the instructions are given now

Lexis®Library update: The Law Society suggests that solicitors must talk to their clients to avoid people losing money and being disappointed.

Given the many factors that can delay the completion process, there is no guarantee that transactions will complete before the deadline and Rightmove estimates that ‘around 100,000 buyers will miss out on the stamp duty saving’.

The Law Society president, David Greene, has urged the government to push the deadline and suggested that transitional arrangements be put in place ‘to help release the growing pressure on the conveyancing system, on buyers and sellers and on solicitors’.
