The government has responded to the Justice Committee’s fourth report of Session 2022—2023 titled ‘Fraud and the Justice System’, which made 18 recommendations in relation to supporting victims, working with industry and tackling, investigating, prosecuting and disrupting fraud.

Lexis®Library update: The government has said it is working with City of London Police (CoLP) to expand National Economic Crime Victim Care Units from 2023 for victims whose cases are not investigated, providing £30m to CoLP over the next three years to support the upgrade in the Action Fraud service, launching a new reporting tool, website and Fraud Strategy and increasing law enforcement investigative capacity to tackle fraud.

In its response, the government has also discussed the actions it is taking in terms of improving collaborative working with public and private sectors to tackle fraud, such as the Joint Fraud Taskforce and launch of a new public engagement team and potential tech and online charter.
