The Law Society has commented on the Illegal Migration Bill’s approach to refugees and asylum.

Lexis®Library update: The President of the Law Society, Lubna Shah, has said ‘there is a high chance this bill may not comply with international and domestic law. It could lead to the British state violating fundamental rights, such as the right to life, to be protected from torture, trafficking and slavery, to liberty, to fair trial’. Shah has also said that the Bill would ‘diminish access to justice for those seeking asylum’.

A briefing has also been prepared, which includes the Law Society’s concerns about the Bill’s compliance with international obligations.

The full briefing is available here.
