LNB news: Law Society responds to Law Commission consultation on hate crime

The Law Society has responded to the Law Commission’s September 2020 consultation on proposals to reform hate crime laws
Lexis®Library update: The Law Commission's proposals included ‘equalising protection across all of the existing protected characteristics’, ‘adding sex or gender to the protected characteristics’ and ‘establishing criteria for deciding whether any additional characteristics should be recognised in hate crime laws’, such as ageism and misogyny.

The Law Society agreed with the Law Commission regarding the benefits of reform which allow for higher ‘consistency, clarity and fairness’.
