Lexis®Library update: Despite the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, pet insurers processed claims at the second highest annual amount on record.
The total value of pet insurance claims was £799m, mainly relating to the costs of veterinary treatment. Over 1.06 million cat owners had pet insurance, an increase on previous years. There were 978,000 notified claims, of which 212,000 involved cats and 734,000 for dogs, with an equivalent value totalling £148m and £598m respectively.
During the coronavirus pandemic, pet insurers have, and continue to, provide extra support to customers. Extra measures include working with veterinary practices to ensure that pets get the treatment needed as soon as possible and offering online or phone consultations with vets.
