Lexis®Library update: In his speech he referred to a speech he had given in October 2021 in which he had stated that the number one priority for him during the remainder of his term as President was to achieve a reform of the approach to the resolution of private family law disputes. The President referred to the report 'What About Me?' (published in October 2020) from the Family Solutions Group (FSG), a spin-off from the President's Private Law Working Group, and said that his aim was to use that report as the blueprint for radical change and to do all that he could to press for its recommendations to be implemented.
In his speech to the FMAC the President looked at what progress had been achieved 12 months on, in bringing about change and the possible direction of travel that any shift in approach may take family mediation. He also looked at whether the family mediation community was ready for that likely journey, and what might be done to optimise their ability to be ready for the changes that are likely to come.
