London Legal Walk postponed

The much-loved London Legal Walk has been postponed to 5 October, due to the COVID-19 pandemic

The annual walk, one of the biggest events in the legal calendar, was previously scheduled to take place in June.

Organisers, the London Legal Support Trust (LLST), said it had been a ‘difficult decision’ but the best option was to postpone.

Nearly 600 teams have already signed up for the 2020 walk, which is sponsored and supported by the Law Society and LexisNexis. Last year, more than 15,000 solicitors, barristers, judges and legal professionals strode 10km through the Capital, raising more than £890,000 for frontline free legal advice services such as local law centres, advice centres and Citizens Advice in London and the South East.

Nezahat Cihan, LLST chief executive, said: ‘Public health is everyone’s concern and we do not want to put the thousands of participants who walk at risk.

‘We are grateful for the ongoing support and understanding of our sponsors and participants at this difficult time. The need for our funding was already growing. This is now compounded as we are expecting an increase in Emergency Funding applications from advice agencies as they deal with the impact of the current Covid-19 situation. The fundraising from the walk will be more critical than ever.’
