Double partner hire to head private equity real estate practice

City firm McCarthy Denning has welcomed Iain Morpeth and Michael Wistow as partners. The pair have joined the firm as co-heads of the private equity real estate practice, with Michael also taking up the role of global head of tax.

Iain (pictured, right) previously spent 24 years with Clifford Chance, and also served as global chair of Ropes & Gray’s private equity real estate department. His areas of expertise range from real estate M&A and private equity deals, to restructuring and mezzanine lending, advising clients including global hedge funds, investment banks, and sovereign wealth funds.

Michael (left) joins the firm after over four years with White & Case, where he co-headed the Europe, the Middle East and Africa tax practice. He also spent almost two decades with Clifford Chance, and served as head of tax at Berwin Leighton Paisner. Michael advises clients such as investment banks, pension funds, family offices and private equity real estate funds on transactions and tax matters, including including securitisations, corporate acquisitions and disposals, joint ventures, and funds.

Warren Wooldridge, co-founder and CEO of McCarthy Denning, said: ‘At McCarthy Denning, we remain focused on expanding our international corporate and commercial capabilities for our rapidly growing client base. On behalf of the firm, I would like to extend a very warm welcome to both Iain and Michael. As the pandemic continues to roll on, there is increasing demand from clients looking for experienced legal experts to guide them through the challenging business, legal and regulatory landscape and we aim to support them by providing access to technically excellent, market-leading experts spanning all key sectors and industries.’
