McCarthy Denning—Justin Conway

City law firm welcomes partner to banking and finance department
City law firm McCarthy Denning has recently announced that Justin Conway, a pan-European special situations and credit trading lawyer, has joined the firm as a partner in its Banking & Finance Department. Justin, a dual-qualified solicitor in both England & Wales and New Zealand, joins from Jones Day.

Justin has extensive experience in advising clients on all aspects of debt, investment and loan portfolio trading across key international markets. With more than 20 years’ experience specialising in restructuring, bankruptcy and credit trading, Justin draws on his in-house experience having held the positions of Executive Director and Senior Counsel during his five and a half years at Goldman Sachs. Coupled with his significant private practice experience as a partner at Jones Day and, before that, DLA Piper, Justin provides his clients with technically strong and commercially sensible investment solutions.

Justin’s client base predominantly consists of banks and alternative/special situations hedge funds. Justin is particularly adept at providing these clients with advice on off-the-run investments; from structured debt and equity investments, performing, non-performing, shipping and real estate portfolios, through to expropriation/liquidation claims. Additionally, he regularly advises on wider issues relating to compliance, due diligence and loan agency matters.

Of his appointment Justin said: 'McCarthy Denning is a natural fit for my pan-European special situations and credit trading practice. Its innovative approach to the delivery of legal services will allow me to better partner with my fund and investment bank clients.'

Warren Wooldridge, Co-founder and CEO of McCarthy Denning, commented: 'We are pleased to welcome Justin to the firm. He is joining the growing ranks of lawyers who, turning their back on the traditional law firm archetype, have come to McCarthy Denning to enjoy working for a firm that is focused on the needs of the client and where lawyers are empowered to work with agility, autonomy and flexibility.'
