IP firm welcomes experienced patent litigator as partner

Mewburn Ellis has appointed Aled Richards-Jones as a partner from 1 December 2025, strengthening the firm’s litigation capabilities across the UK and Europe. A specialist in patents—particularly life sciences and SPC litigation—Aled has acted in major High Court and Court of Appeal matters involving pharmaceuticals, biotech and medical devices, including what has become a leading authority on insufficiency.

His practice spans complex, cross-border patent disputes involving small molecules, biologics and interlocking issues of IP and regulatory law. He also brings wider experience across copyright, trade mark and trade secrets matters, having appeared before the High Court, Court of Appeal, the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court and the UKIPO. The hire follows recent additions to the litigation team, including partner Camilla Balleny and solicitor Amy Crouch, as well as digital health specialist Susannah Dragosavac.

Chairperson Richard Johnson said the firm is ‘thrilled to welcome Aled’, noting that his arrival ‘underscores our commitment to expanding our international litigation practice’. He added that Aled’s background as a ‘trusted adviser in complex patent disputes and cross-border litigation’ will be central to supporting clients across life sciences and technology.

Aled said joining the firm at this moment is ‘a fantastic opportunity’, highlighting the ‘growing complexity of pan-European IP disputes’. He added that he looks forward to applying his experience to help clients navigate these challenges ‘while working alongside a talented team of colleagues’.

The long-awaited Getty Images v Stability AI judgment arrived at the end of last year—but not with the seismic impact many expected. In this week's issue of NLJ, experts from Arnold & Porter dissect a ruling that is ‘historic’ yet tightly confined
The UK Supreme Court may be deciding fewer cases, but its impact in 2025 was anything but muted. In this week's NLJ, Professor Emeritus Brice Dickson of Queen’s University Belfast reviews a year marked by historically low output, a striking rise in jointly authored judgments, and a continued decline in dissent. High-profile rulings on biological sex under the Equality Act, public access to Dartmoor, and fairness in sexual offence trials ensured the court’s voice carried far beyond the Strand
