Michael E. Arruda—Baker Botts LLP

Firm appoints regional partner-in-charge of Asia offices

Baker Botts LLP has announced that Michael E. Arruda has been appointed as the regional partner-in-charge of the firm’s Asia offices.

“Mike is a highly experienced lawyer with a deep understanding of the Asian market for legal services. He will continue our efforts to expand our regional capabilities, while maintaining the highest levels of client service,” says Andrew M. Baker, managing partner of Baker Botts.

Michael joined the firm in September of 2015 and is based in the firm’s Hong Kong office. His 30-plus years encompass almost every aspect of oil and gas activity. His practice centers on the acquisition, operation and divestiture of oil and gas interests on behalf of clients throughout Asia. He represents oil and gas companies and other investors making acquisitions abroad, as well as those based outside of Asia seeking to acquire local oil and gas companies or assets. Michael has lived in Hong Kong for over 15 years, and his experience focuses on work in Southeast Asia, China and elsewhere in the region.

“Since joining Baker Botts I have been impressed by the professionalism, client focus and strategic vision of the firm. This is a unique opportunity and I am honored and excited to accept it,” said Michael.

"The firm has worked hard to establish a strong regional identity through our offices in Asia. With Mike’s appointment, we will further sharpen our focus on growth in this dynamic part of the world while offering outstanding client service across our international platform," says Jamie Baker, a partner in the firm’s Washington DC office, who heads the firm’s international practice and is co-chair of the global projects department.
