New judges

Four new Court of Appeal judges have been appointed.

10 Downing Street announced this week that Mrs Justice King, Mr Justice Sales, Mr Justice Bean and Mr Justice Burnett will be appointed to the court in the autumn. They replace Sir Alan Moses, Sir Colin Rimer, Sir John Goldring and Sir Maurice Kay, who have retired.

This will increase the number of women in the court to eight—one in five, which is double the proportion a year ago. King J’s promotion leaves 20 women in the High Court out of 108 judges, with one vacancy to fill.
