The ‘plethora of statutory instruments’ surrounding the COVID-19 restrictions are ‘so complex that they are barely understandable by lawyers’, barristers Charles Auld and Dr Kate Harrington write in NLJ this week.
Presenting the guidance in a more straightforward way would have aided public understanding and uptake. Instead, a ‘linguistic behemoth’ has arisen to guide the public through the maze. Auld and Harrington advocate clarity of expression, perhaps using pictures, graphs and diagrams.
