The Parole Board has announced the appointments of a record number of black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) candidates.

Following a recruitment campaign across the north of England, 53 independent members will now join the board, 48% of whom come from a BAME background. The new members bring the board’s BAME diversity to almost 13; prior to the campaign, it stood at less than 5%.

Caroline Corby, chair of the Parole Board, said: ‘I am delighted that we have taken significant steps to improve the diversity of our membership. It is vital that we represent the community that we serve to continue to increase public confidence in our decision making.’
