Appointment of former Solicitor General bolsters corporate investigations and white collar practice

Pillsbury has appointed The Rt Hon the Lord Garnier KC as senior counsel in its London office, continuing the firm’s rapid growth in the UK. A member of the House of Lords and former Solicitor General for England and Wales, Lord Garnier is one of the country’s most respected silks, practising from 4 Pump Court. He brings decades of experience across corporate crime, human rights, sanctions, and media law, as well as deep insight into government investigations.

Firm chair David Dekker said Lord Garnier ‘has unsurpassed experience navigating the intricacies of investigations, from both government and private practice perspectives’. He added that Pillsbury’s London office ‘has grown by over 30% in the last twelve months’, underscoring its strategic importance to the firm’s global platform.

Deborah Baum, Pillsbury’s global head of litigation, described Lord Garnier as ‘among the UK’s most influential figures in financial crime and investigations’. London managing partner Matthew Oresman said his arrival ‘serves as testament of our ability to attract the most qualified and sought-after legal advisors’. Head of UK corporate investigations and white collar defence Audrey Koh added that the expansion of the London white-collar team was ‘both natural and timely’ in light of new UK legislation, including the ‘failure to prevent fraud’ offence.

Lord Garnier said he was ‘delighted to be working with the expanding Pillsbury team’, noting that he hopes to bring his ‘nearly 50 years’ experience at the Bars of England and Wales and of Northern Ireland’ to the firm’s cross-border practice. ‘Having brought DPAs from America to England, I know there is a huge amount we British lawyers can learn from our US counterparts,’ he said.
