A long-term prisoner, sentenced for offences committed before 30 September 1998, who was released on licence and recalled to prison after 4 April 2005, is entitled to unconditional release at the three-quarter point of his sentence under the provisions of the Criminal Justice Act 1991, which continue to apply to such prisoners by virtue of the Criminal Justice Act 2003 (Commencement No 8 and Transitional and Saving Provisions) Order 2005 (SI 2005/2122).
