Simon Hughes joins MoJ

MP is appointed as minister of state for justice

Leading Liberal Democrat MP and former barrister Simon Hughes has been appointed as a minister of state for justice, replacing Lord McNally, who is leaving to chair the Youth Justice Board. Hughes will take over responsibility for family justice, mediation, freedom of information and data protection. He is known to be a supporter of the Human Rights Act, and has previously spoken out against legal aid cuts and secret courts.
