Stamp duty deadline looms

The Law Society has issued a reminder to solicitors on changes to stamp duty deadlines. On 1 March, the time limit to file a stamp duty land tax return and pay the tax due will reduce from 30 days to 14 days. The change was confirmed in the Autumn Budget 2017 and applies to both residential and commercial property. According to HM Revenue and Customs, most returns are already paid within 14 days and the aim of the new deadline is to make the system more efficient.
