The SQE, which will be phased in from 2021, allows for a more flexible approach to qualification, for example, apprenticeship. To qualify as a solicitor, candidates will need to have a degree, two years’ qualifying work experience and to have passed SQE1 (180 questions testing legal knowledge) and SQE2 (practical legal skills assessed through 15-18 tasks).
Paul Philip,
SRA chief executive, said the new system was a ‘rigorous, fair, world class
assessment for all aspiring solicitors’.
