Super-exam finalised

The format of the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) has been approved by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) Board

The SQE, which will be phased in from 2021, allows for a more flexible approach to qualification, for example, apprenticeship. To qualify as a solicitor, candidates will need to have a degree, two years’ qualifying work experience and to have passed SQE1 (180 questions testing legal knowledge) and SQE2 (practical legal skills assessed through 15-18 tasks).

Paul Philip, SRA chief executive, said the new system was a ‘rigorous, fair, world class assessment for all aspiring solicitors’.
