Thackray Williams—Jennifer Nicol

Firm bolsters commercial team with senior employment partner hire

Thackray Williams has strengthened its commercial practice with the appointment of employment lawyer Jennifer Nicol as one of its London partners. With more than 20 years’ experience gained at a City law firm and as a consultant, she will also lead the team at the firm’s City of London office. Co-managing partner Emma Thomson said Ms Nicol will ‘significantly augment our current offering in these areas, enabling us to enhance the proactive support we provide to our existing clients’.

Previously a partner at specialist workplace law firm Doyle Clayton, where she led the Canary Wharf team, Ms Nicol has advised clients across the financial, insurance, media and technology sectors, as well as senior executives and family-owned businesses. She said: ‘I am excited to be joining Thackray Williams, a firm highly regarded for its excellent workplace culture as well as its legal expertise, and I look forward to working with the existing team of excellent employment lawyers.’

With specialist training in workplace inclusion, she has a particular focus on wellbeing and mental health in the workplace. ‘My in-depth training in workplace inclusion and discrimination means I always strive to understand what HR clients and leaders need, above and beyond good commercial advice,’ she explained. ‘I also represent a lot of individual clients in situations that may be complex and challenging. My aim is always to keep the person and their objectives at the heart of the advice I provide.’

Reflecting on her decision to return to private practice after three years in Australia, Ms Nicol said: ‘Of the various employment offers I received, the one from Thackray Williams was by a country mile the most exciting and interesting – and that’s largely down to the people. It is a highly successful firm which is led by very impressive people. I am especially looking forward to supporting the managing partners, who have a clear vision for the future growth of the firm.’
