Bird & Bird—Sue McLean

Commercial team in London welcomes technology specialist as partner

International law firm Bird & Bird has appointed tech transactions specialist Sue McLean as a partner in its London commercial team, bolstering its international technology offering. McLean brings more than 25 years’ experience advising on high-value, business-critical technology deals, with a focus on cloud, outsourcing and digital transformation, as well as strategic development and licensing arrangements.

Her practice spans emerging technologies including AI, blockchain and crypto-assets, with particular expertise in responsible AI governance programmes and AI-driven transactions. She also advises on the technology aspects of M&A, supporting clients on acquisitions, disposals and joint ventures across sectors such as tech, financial services, consumer goods and life sciences.

Ronald Hendrikx, co-head of the international tech & comms group, said: ‘Sue’s appointment reflects our continued investment in our international technology practice’ and highlighted her ‘deep understanding of evolving technology ecosystems’. McLean, who chairs the Society of Computers and Law and has been recognised in the Innovate Finance Women in Fintech Powerlist Hall of Fame, said: ‘Bird & Bird’s strategic focus on technology is truly embedded across the firm’ and described the firm as ‘an outstanding platform to further develop my technology and fintech practice.’
