Charles Gordon—JAMS International

Retiring DLA Piper partner joins ADR provider

Charles Gordon, head of insurance, insolvency and restructuring (EMEA) at DLA Piper has joined JAMS International as a fulltime mediator and arbitrator. Charles will serve on panels in New York and London from which he will continue to service an international insurance and policy-holder client base.

At JAMS International, Gordon joins an accomplished transatlantic team of insurance mediators and arbitrators in London, including former Ince & Co senior partner, Peter Rogan

After 13 years at DLA Piper, Gordon will retire as a partner on 30 April, 2013. At the firm Gordon advised on all areas of insurance, and led teams on numerous test cases, including matters before the Supreme Court and House of Lords. He recently led a team that successfully mediated US$1.5bn of claims arising from the 2008 Queensland Flood on behalf of 28 international reinsurers.

Charles says, “After 13 very happy years with DLA Piper, I am pleased to be able to offer my expertise to the market in a different context. DLA Piper has long been a supporter of cost-effective commercial settlements through mediation and arbitration, and I’m delighted to be able to continue that tradition as an independent panellist.”

Chris Poole, CEO of JAMS, says, “We are delighted that Charles has accepted our invitation to join JAMS International in New York and London. His name and reputation in the London market, combined with his experience of complex cross-border insurance litigation, is a valuable addition to our trans-Atlantic practice and we look forward to working with him."
