Leading criminal and regulatory
litigation firm Corker Binning is to promote two of its lawyers to the
partnership.
The Firm is promoting of counsel Maia Cohen-Lask and Nick Barnard to the partnership, effective from 1 April 2023.
Peter Binning, co-founder of the firm, said: '
'They are rightly recognised as
rising stars. Their promotion is well-deserved as we build the future senior
leadership team and look forward to our first quarter century in 2025. I am
particularly proud of our ability to develop some of the best lawyers in our
practice area. Both Maia and Nick started their careers as paralegals at the
firm and now become partners. We have no doubt that they will be stellar
additions to the partnership, acting as they do in a wide variety of
challenging cases securing the best results for their clients.'
Maia Cohen-Lask specialises in both
financial and general crime. She has represented clients in some of the largest
and most high-profile domestic and cross-border financial crime cases in recent
years, including clients investigated and prosecuted by the SFO, NCA, and FCA.
In general crime, Maia regularly
represents individuals at every stage from their first interview at the police
station through to trial. Her experience covers a wide variety of cases
including sexual offences, assaults, blackmail, and drug offences. Maia also
advises clients facing sanctions in the UK and abroad.
She first joined Corker Binning as a
paralegal in 2012 before completing her pupillage at the criminal Bar in 2015.
She then returned to Corker Binning as an associate in late 2015 and became of counsel in April 2022.
Nick Barnard began his criminal law
career as a paralegal with Corker Binning in 2011. He then completed his
training contract at a Top 100 firm and returned to Corker Binning as an
associate in 2015. He was promoted to of counsel in April 2022.
Nick specialises in advising and
representing individual and corporate clients in a range of financial criminal
and regulatory matters, with a particular interest in cryptoassets.
Nick has acted in many high-profile
and complex investigations into fraud, bribery, tax offences, money-laundering
and asset forfeiture in the UK and abroad. He is frequently involved in
criminal investigations and prosecutions conducted by the SFO, the NCA, and
HMRC, as well as FCA regulatory enforcement matters.
Maia and Nick’s promotion to the
partnership comes a year after the firm promoted general crime lawyer Danielle
Reece-Greenhalgh.
The firm also hired general crime partner Paul Morris in October last year.
