City law firm Fladgate is today pleased to announce the appointment of financial services and regulatory disputes partner Douglas Cherry.
Douglas is a specialist regulatory lawyer focusing primarily on financial services and markets advice, promoting strategies to avoid regulatory problems, and leading on investigations, technology and digital assets, payment services and consumer credit matters as they arise. Douglas has extensive expertise in relation to Financial Conduct Authority and Prudential Regulation Authority enforcement matters and regulatory processes, as well as investigations into audit conduct undertaken by the Financial Reporting Council.
Douglas’ clients include regulated financial institutions such as banks, investment managers, fund managers, broker-dealers, consumer-credit firms, electronic money issuers, and payment service providers. His clients also include audit and consultancy firms in the context of his FRC practice. His work is often international in scope, and he has significant experience conducting matters spanning several jurisdictions and involving multiple investigators and regulators globally.
Douglas previously worked within both the Supervision and Enforcement and Financial Crime Divisions of what was then the Financial Services Authority, and also has experience in relation to civil fraud and asset tracing matters.
Commenting on his appointment, Douglas said: 'I am delighted to have joined Fladgate, who are known in the market for taking on some of the most complex commercial disputes. I look forward to working with my new colleagues to develop further our compelling proposition for clients.'
Fladgate’s Head of Dispute Resolution, John Evans, commented: 'As corporates are increasingly under the regulatory microscope globally, Douglas’ experience is key to strengthening our existing Funds, Finance and Regulatory practice and he adds to our bench of disputes experts.'
Grant Gordon, Managing Partner at Fladgate, commented: 'Douglas’ appointment signals to the market Fladgate’s ongoing commitment to investing in sector specialists to augment our existing practice areas, as well as to expand into new areas of expertise as we continue to pursue our growth strategy into 2023.'
Douglas’ appointment follows the recent hires of immigration Partner, Antonia Torr, and real estate litigation Partner, Michael Metliss. Douglas joins Fladgate, a top 100 UK law firm, as it continues its ambitious three-year growth strategy and accelerated lateral hire programme, becoming Fladgate’s 15th lateral hire since the start of 2021.
