Forum of Insurance Lawyers appoints technical director

The Forum of Insurance Lawyers (FOIL) has appointed a new Technical Director, effective from 1st March 2022.

Dr Jeffrey Wale, Senior Law Lecturer at Bath Spa University and a former BLM partner, will be working with FOIL to provide services as Technical Director.

The role was created in 2016the Technical Director is responsible for helping to develop FOIL’s strategy and focus, particularly guiding the work of its Sector Focus Teams (SFTs), and writing and publishing all of FOIL’s technical publications.

Commenting on his appointment, Jeffrey said: 'I am delighted to be taking on this role. This project between Bath Spa University and FOIL will assist the further development and profile of the Law course team, as well as contributing to the student experience and the broader knowledge exchange and enterprise objectives of the University.'

FOIL’s current Technical Director, Shirley Denyer, will assume a new role of Technical Consultant for FOIL. She will continue to compose FOIL’s responses to consultations and to work with the Costs and Rehab Sector Focus Teams as well as with the cross industry initiative on rehabilitation. She will also oversee the conclusion of several technical projects that are already up and running.

Laurence Besemer, Chief Executive of FOIL, said: 'While Shirley will not be leaving FOIL for, hopefully, many years to come, we would like to thank her all of the work that she has put in over the past 15 years as Technical Director. It is no exaggeration to say that FOIL simply would not have the reputation it has today for forensic analysis of issues and credible well-articulated solutions were it not for Shirley's work.

'Looking to the future I'm convinced that Jeffrey will bring a valuable balance of commercial knowledge and academic rigour to FOIL and I very much look forward to working with him over the coming years.'
