MP & Peer launch proceedings against government
Green Party MP Caroline Lucas and Baroness Jones have launched legal proceedings against the government over alleged surveillance by GCHQ. They claim their communications are being intercepted as part of the Tempora programme exposed by whistleblower Edward Snowden.
The unusual proceedings have been launched at the Investigatory Powers Tribunal. Leigh Day solicitor Rosa Curling, representing Lucas and Jones, will argue that the alleged interception breaches the Wilson Doctrine—that there should be no interception of communication sent to or from MPs unless there is a national emergency.
