Glaisyers ETL—hires & promotions

Manchester firm announces round of appointments and promotions

Glaisyers ETL, the Manchester-headquartered national law firm, has announced a new round of appointments and promotions.

Alison Rowley (pictured) has joined the firm’s Legal 500-listed commercial litigation team as a senior associate. She joins from Blackburn-based Taylors Solicitors, where she held an equivalent role.

In addition to advising on a full range of general company, landlord and tenant and property disputes, Ms Rowley also has expertise in professional negligence claims, probate disputes and equitable and restation claims. The latter include, for example, unjust enrichment and promissory claims.

Other new starters include trainee solicitor Rachel Bailey and paralegals Bartek Szalla and Niamh Howarth. Mr Szalla has joined the firm’s corporate practice, while Ms Howarth is part of the commercial litigation team.

A number of legal and non-legal staff have also received promotions. Michael Wilson, who joined as a Solicitor in 2021, has been promoted to associate in the commercial litigation practice, and Gemma Wilson, who also joined as a solicitor in 2021, has been promoted to associate in the employment department.

Sarah Milligan, who joined the firm’s commercial property team in 2021, has been promoted from associate to senior associate. And Daniel Varney, who joined Glaisyers as a corporate partner in 2022 has been promoted to head of department.

The firm has also bolstered its senior management team, with three promotions. Carolyn Smith, who has been with the firm since 2002, has been promoted from assistant practice manager to finance and business services manager, and Sean Edwards, who joined the firm as business analyst in 2019, has become projects and business solutions manager.

Janet Westwell, who joined Glaisyers ETL as HR manager in 2022, has also been promoted, taking on the expanded role of people and organisational development manager. Since joining the firm Ms Westwell has already spearheaded a number of initiatives around staff wellbeing, diversity and inclusion, and employee benefits.

David Jones, executive partner at Glaisyers ETL, said, 'It gives me great pride to be able to welcome another cohort of great lawyers and trainees to the firm, and to recognise the contribution made by existing members of the team with promotions.

'I am particularly excited by the formation of a senior management team, in the shape of Carolyn, Sean and Janet. All three have previously made great contributions to the firm, but now they will formally be working together to drive innovation and excellence throughout the many non-legal elements that go into running a great law firm.'
