Law firm welcomes partner to dispute resolution department

Law firm Harold Benjamin has recently welcomed Niten Chauhan (pictured), who joins the firm as a Partner in the Dispute Resolution department and as the Head of the Restructuring and Insolvency team.

He joins Harold Benjamin from a London law firm, where he was an established Partner and the Head of the Litigation and Insolvency Team for the last 11 years. Before that, he had a successful career in finance with experience of working within both a multinational accountancy firm and a global investment bank. Consequently, Niten has significant experience of dealing with Restructuring and Insolvency work and specialises in contentious matters, acting for both corporate and personal clients as well as insolvency practitioners and the creditors they represent.

Niten also has experience in wider litigation from shareholder and contractual disputes to matters of civil fraud. He has undertaken a number of high-profile litigation cases and achieved many successful outcomes for his clients. This includes the seminal decision before the Court of Appeal, in the case of P & P Property Ltd v Owen White and Caitlin LLP and another, in which he obtained significant compensation for a development company which had been defrauded and set a precedent leading to the Law Society’s Code for Completion being amended—which still has a lasting impact on the profession to this day.

Furthermore, Niten has a strong international following through his worldwide network of law firms and associates and, in turn, he has acted for clients all over the globe from Europe and the Middle East to Asia and specifically the ASEAN region.  Through this work he has gained a number of accolades too, including being recently appointed as Vice-Chair of the Asian-European Committee of LAWASIA.

Commenting on his new role, Niten said: 'Harold Benjamin is a dynamic and progressive law firm and one which is expanding as a result. Whilst it adopts a modern and often innovative approach to the law at the heart of the practice is a collegiate yet driven team of people, who are experts in their specialist areas. I am privileged to be joining such ambitious and like-minded individuals within a firm which has a clear upward trajectory.'

Vijay Parikh, Managing Partner at Harold Benjamin added: 'With businesses struggling in a tough economic climate and people confronted with the rising cost of living it was crucial to have the expertise in place to help our clients with the challenges they may face in the future. Niten’s hire has, therefore, been pivotal to the firm in building out our Restructuring and Insolvency offering and continuing to expand. We are currently on a growth plan, having set up a new Banking and Finance department last year, and the intention is to continue our development in key areas that will be beneficial to our clients. Niten brings exactly the experience we need as we expand this offering and will be an asset to the firm.'
