Nine practice heads take a seat on management board

International firm HFW has announced the election of nine global practice heads and the formation of a new management board.

The nine appointed practice heads will take their places on the new management board, alongside managing partner Jeremy Shebson (pictured), global senior partner Richard Crump, and chief financial officer Hamedeh Ghobadian. The elected heads and their respective practice areas are as follows:

  • Giles Kavanagh, aerospace
  • Alistair Feeney, commodities
  • Carolyn Chudleigh, construction
  • Alistair Mackie, energy and resources
  • Christopher Cardona, insurance and reinsurance
  • Paul Dean, shipping
  • Brian Gordon, corporate
  • Elinor Dautlich, finance
  • Noel Campbell, litigation

The move marks the first time that representatives from the corporate, finance and litigation groups have been included on HFW's management board.

Jeremy Shebson commented: ‘The addition of representatives from our corporate, finance and litigation practices to our management board reflects the success, growth and importance of these practices to the firm globally. We already have one of the market's leading disputes practices and expanding our transactional offering is a strategic priority.

‘I am also very pleased that we now have three women on our board. We are deeply committed to increasing female representation at the highest levels of the firm, and I look forward to working with Carolyn, Elinor, Hamedeh and the rest of the board to help drive positive change.’

Writing in NLJ this week, Professor Dominic Regan of City Law School hails the Court of Appeal's 'exquisite judgment’ in Mazur restoring the role of supervised non-qualified staff, and highlights a ‘mammoth’ damages ruling likened to War and Peace, alongside guidance on medical reporting fees, where a pragmatic 25% uplift was imposed

Timing is everything—and the Court of Appeal has delivered clarity on when proceedings are ‘brought’. In his latest 'Civil way' column for NLJ, Stephen Gold explains that a claim is issued for limitation purposes when the claim form is delivered to the court, even if fees are underpaid
The traditional ‘single, intensive day’ of financial dispute resolution (FDR) may be due for a rethink. Writing in NLJ this week, Rachel Frost-Smith and Lauren Guiler of Birketts propose a ‘split FDR’ model, separating judicial evaluation from negotiation
