LNB NEWS: MoJ publishes government's response to JCHR's scrutiny of Bill of Rights Bill

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has published the government's response to the Joint Committee on Human Rights (JCHR) 9th report of session 2022-2023, on the Bill of Rights Bill.

Lexis®Library update: Some of the responses include that the government chooses to proceed with the bill, noting that the Bill of Rights will allow the government to remain a State Party to the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), that clause 5 of the Bill will give operational experts more confidence in exercising their judgement when deciding how best to serve the public, therefore the government disagrees with the recommendation to remove it, and that short title ‘Bill of Rights’ will continue to be used as the government feels this is a suitable title for the aim of the legislation.

You can read the full response here.
