Energy team expands with arrival of Africa expert

McCarthy Denning has welcomed partner Nicolas Bonnefoy to the team, bolstering its capabilities in energy matters.

Formerly a partner with law firms Ashurst and Bowmans, Nicolas is dual qualified to practice in both France and England and Wales. He focuses exclusively on the African energy market, advising oil, gas and mining companies on a wide range of matters including obtaining exploration and production rights, and M&A transactions within the sector. Outside of his legal practice, Nicolas is also a special adviser at Africa Matters, and vice president of legal and commercial at Stonechair Capital Corp.

CEO of McCarthy Denning Warren Wooldridge said: ‘Nicolas is a widely respected oil and gas lawyer in Africa and will be a valuable addition to our energy team. His nuanced understanding of the African energy ecosystem, especially the francophone regions, will strengthen McCarthy Denning’s presence in a key market. This appointment once again demonstrates McCarthy Denning’s commitment to recruiting experienced, senior lawyers who are experts in their fields.’

Nicolas added: ‘McCarthy Denning has an impressive roster of leading energy lawyers who are unrivalled in terms of experience and knowledge in the industry. I am excited to be working amongst a team of great pedigree lawyers whilst contributing to the firm’s growing energy practice.’
