New commissioner

In brief

The Bar Standards Board (BSB) has made Dr Ann Barker its new complaints commissioner. Previously the chair of the Border and Immigration Agency’s Complaints Audit Committee, Barker took over from Ros Gardner, interim complaints commissioner on July 1. She is a member of numerous panels including the General Medical Council’s Fitness to Practise Panel and the Mental Health Review Tribunal. Ruth Evans, BSB chairman, says: “We are very pleased that Ann has agreed to join us at such a critical time for our complaints and disciplinary process. Competition for the post was of a very high standard and she will bring valuable experience to the role.”
