NLJ PROFILE: Suzanne Jones, Seddons

Suzanne Jones, who recently joined as partner in the corporate restructuring & recovery department at Seddons, shares how far her quest for transferable skills has taken her

What was your route into the profession?

I had no idea whatsoever what I wanted to do once I finished school, so opted for a law degree as I was of the view that it was a highly regarded degree where I would learn transferable skills. I went on to complete the Bar Vocational Course and took the Qualified Lawyer Transfer Test to become a solicitor.

What has been your biggest career challenge so far?

My biggest challenge so far has to be during the first two years of my career. Everything I was asked to do was something completely new to me, so it took a lot of time and research to complete each task.

Which person within the legal profession inspires you most?

Marcia Shekerdemian QC. Marcia is fun as well as extremely professional, a brilliant lawyer and an amazing person!

If you weren’t a lawyer, what would you choose as an alternate career?

I would be a hotel manager of a luxury hotel chain.

Who is your favourite fictional lawyer?

I don’t have one—I don’t watch anything on television about the law!

What change would you make to the profession?

I think the biggest challenge for individuals who want to get into the law is the cost involved, so I would definitely change the route to qualification to reduce this.

How do you relax?

I love to cook!
