The media conception that 4 January is Divorce Day, the day when enquiries about divorce to family lawyers peak, may be a myth. Resolution surveyed its family lawyer members last year and found that 82% did not report a spike in enquiries in the first week of January. However, there is a surge in the number of people searching for information online about family law and separation during January. Jo Edwards, chair of Resolution, says most people look for information initially rather than taking immediate action and many would end up not separating.
