The Law Society’s Professional Indemnity Insurance helpline was bracing itself for a surge in calls this week before the 1 October deadline.

Law Society chief executive, Desmond Hudson says: “The PII market this year has, as expected, proved challenging for some legal practices.”

The Society has launched a "SafetyNet" scheme, managed by Lloyd’s broker PYV Limited, which aims to assist legal practices which are having difficulty securing PII renewal terms.

Legal practices can call the Law Society's PII helpline on 020 7320 9545.
