Firm expands regions & appoints award-winning Birmingham head

Law firm Shakespeare Martineau has appointed eight partners across the Midlands and South, including heavy-weight education and real estate partner Clive Read as its head of Birmingham.

Winner of the Birmingham Law Society’s ‘partner of the year’ award 2021, Clive Read (pictured) has 30 years’ experience in advising universities and colleges on the management and development of campuses. He joins the firm from VWV, where he was head of the Birmingham office for five years.

Clive said: “I’m delighted to be heading up the Birmingham team, as the culture and ambition of the firm fits so well with my own values. It’s also great to be part of a firm that is already so well-known for property and education. I look forward to growing the teams and collaborating with experts in different fields, to better service our clients.”

Also in Birmingham is leading legal planning specialist Anna Cartledge who brings more than 15 years’ experience in legal planning, compulsory purchase and highways law.

Expanding Shakespeare Martineau’s Lincoln and East Midlands presence are employment expert Helen Molloy and agricultural specialist Amy Cowdell, who both have 17 years’ and 16 years’ experience in their specialist fields, respectively.

In Milton Keynes and London the firm has welcomed four new partners;  Joe Soul, Jordan Glackin, Allawee Albaghdadi and Russell Jarvis. Joe, Jordan and Allawee were formally at EMW within its healthcare, education, social housing and development teams and Russell joins from Harrison Clark Rickerbys.

As we start our new financial year we’re keeping up the momentum and are in discussions with several lateral hires and teams.”
