Switalskis—three appointments

Firm appoints three directors to board

Switalskis has promoted Georgina Peckett, Katrina Elsey and Julie Guest to director roles, with all three joining the firm’s board as it continues to expand nationally from its Yorkshire base. The firm said the appointments reflect ongoing investment in key practice areas including medical negligence and serious injury, as well as its focus on people and culture.

Peckett, a medical negligence specialist with more than 20 years’ experience, joined the firm in 2016 and handles complex, high-value claims for individuals and families affected by life-changing injuries. Elsey, who works in serious injury, joined in 2021 following the firm’s acquisition of Atherton Godfrey and has over two decades of experience supporting clients with severe and life-altering injuries. Guest, who established the firm’s people function in 2022, has built its HR capability and introduced a more strategic approach to people development.

The firm said the promotions highlight its strength in claimant work and its commitment to leadership development, with Guest’s appointment ensuring people, culture and leadership have board-level representation as the business grows.

John Durkan, CEO, said: ‘Our senior level promotions reflect the strength and ambition of the business we’re building.’ He added that the trio ‘consistently demonstrate our values of fairness, empathy and care’ and that it is ‘important that we invest in leadership that delivers excellent legal expertise and champions our culture’.

Timing is everything—and the Court of Appeal has delivered clarity on when proceedings are ‘brought’. In his latest 'Civil way' column for NLJ, Stephen Gold explains that a claim is issued for limitation purposes when the claim form is delivered to the court, even if fees are underpaid
The traditional ‘single, intensive day’ of financial dispute resolution (FDR) may be due for a rethink. Writing in NLJ this week, Rachel Frost-Smith and Lauren Guiler of Birketts propose a ‘split FDR’ model, separating judicial evaluation from negotiation
